Auditions will be held for the New Children's Chorus of Ridgecrest from May 7 to 12. May 7 to 11 from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m., and Saturday, May 12 from 9 a.m. – noon. Children ages 5 to 17 are invited to audition. Auditions are walk-in and open to all. No appointments are necessary. Children are asked to be prepared to perform two songs. All auditions will be held at the Kerr McGee Community Center. The chorus of 100 will be under the musical direction of David Livianu, an alumnus of the Juilliard School and will represent the Indian Wells Valley region.

According to Livianu, the chorus intends to represent the communities of the Indian Wells Valley region (China Lake, Lone Pine, Panamint, Ridgecrest, Saline and Trona). The chorus will showcase the vibrant culture and music of the region through the voices of its young residents. It will be an international chorus of 150 to 200 young people (5-17, boys and girls) with aspirations to rival the best children’s choruses in America… the youngsters will perform American patriotic songs, Gospel, Pop, Rock, Country, and songs from countries around the world (to be sung in the original languages, and with Solfege – Do, Re, mi, Fa, Sol, La, Si-Ti, Do).

This will demonstrate the universality and power of music and infuse the singers with quality music education as it is taught at some of the best pre-college division of music schools like The Juilliard School in NYC (where Livianu graduated in 1982), The Music Academy in Paris, France or The Music Conservatory in Moscow, Russia.

The children will also be instructed at the highest level of music education to read, write and sight-sing with Do, Re, Mi (Solfeggio and Bel Canto), A, B, C (Alphabet method, mostly in the US and Great Britain, and 1, 2, 3 (the numbers method to implement the knowledge of music theory). Part of the mission of the Children’s Chorus is to alleviate the lack of music instruction in the numerous K-12 public and private schools in the area.

This chorus will be a high-performance group of 150-200 young singers (5-17 years old) and rigorous rehearsals will begin in September 2018.

The first round of open auditions (no cost involved) are scheduled for the entire week of May 7 at the Kerr McGee Center Community Center in Ridgecrest as follows: from 5-8 p.m. every day, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. There is no cost to audition. Merit and financial aid scholarships will be offered, after the 2nd round of auditions. Parents can choose the day to come, where children will perform 2 songs from memory, as part of the selection process in this first round.

According to Livianu, “You never know where the next Selena Gomez will emerge from. Great talents is like diamonds in the rough, they are not organized by zip code, geography or societal classifications.”
