Armando Rojas will be sentenced on June 7

A Taft man scheduled to go on trial for child molestation instead took a plea deal and will be sentenced on June 7.
Armando Nazarios Rojas, 22, changed his not guilty plea to committing lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 to a no contest plea at a pretrial hearing, according to the Kern County Superior Court website.

He is scheduled to be sentenced on June 7.
Terms of the agreement were not released.

Rojas was arrested by Taft Police after a brief investigation that started when the victim, a 13-year-old girl, was treated at a Bakersfield hospital on Feb. 24 for a condition unrelated to the molestation, police said.

Hospital staff notified Taft Police that something was wrong, triggering the investigation.

The crime is believed to have occurred on Feb. 18, police said.

Rojas was arrested on Feb. 28.
He is being held in the Kern County Sheriff's Lerdo Facility on $50,000 bail while awaiting sentencing.
