Victims were in car that collided head-on with oil tanker

Two people were killed and a third suffered major injuries in a head-on collision in New Cuyama Sunday afternoon.

The dead are a man and woman, believed to be in their 40s, who were in a small Honda sedan that collided with the big rig pulling an oil tanker, Santa Barbara County Fire Department Spokesman Dave Zaniboni said.

The driver of the big rig suffered major injuries and was flown from the scene by CalSTAR to Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, Zaniboni said.
The names of the victims have not been released.

Highway 166 was at least partially blocked by the collision at at Highway 166 and Hubbard Avenue next to Richardson Park.

The crash as reported at 3:56 p.m.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
