He faces more DUI charges, plus evading arrest, driving without a license, driving with no proof of insurance

Police have identified the driver arrested after a short vehicle pursuit and foot search as Valente Velasco Castro, 25, of Taft.

Castro was charged with drunk driving, evading arrest in a vehicle, resisting or obstructing arrest, driving without a license and driving with no proof of insurance.

This is his second DUI arrest this year, according to Kern County Superior Court records.

Castro and two passengers were taken into custody by Taft Police following a brief chase from Sixth and Main to Oak and Lierly just before 5 p.m. Thursday.

It started when an officer attempted a traffic stop.

It ended when the driver and two passengers exited the vehicle while it was still moving.

One passenger suffered minor injuries when he fell.

The car rolled into a block wall.

Castro and one passenger fled the scene.
Castro was arrested several blocks away.

One passenger escaped, but the other two were charged with public intoxication, police said.

Superior Court records show Castro was arrested for DUI on Feb. 15 and on April 2 pleaded no contest to misdemeanor DUI and driving without a license.

He was sentenced to four days in jail, fined $1,883 and placed on three years probation.
