The victim of a South Taft homicide is a man, and Kern County Sheriff sergeant said, and suffered "obvious trauma" to his chest.

Sheriff's deputies found the victim lying in the street about 6 a.m. when they responded to a report of a man down in the 600 block of Crystal Street, Sgt. Kevin George said.

They found the victim laying in the south side of the street.
The deputies immediately started CPR, George said, and medical aid was summoned.
The victim was pronounced dead a short time later.

Homicide detectives and technical investigators responded to the scene and Crystal Street between Olive and Naylor has been closed for several hours.

Evidence markers have been placed around the body and at several other locations in the area.
George said about 10 a.m. that the processing of the crime scene should be completed soon and the street reopened.
