Assemblyman honors family restaurant for commitment to the community and people

Assemblyman Vince Fong honored OT Cookhouse and Saloon as the 34th Assembly District’s 2018 Small Business of the Year Tuesday.
OT Cookhouse and Saloon began as a retirement project for the Payne Family in Taft, California, in June 1998 and now the business has earned a reputation for serving up colossal portions of unforgettable, savory cuisine.

“When you think of Taft, you think of OT Cookhouse and Saloon,” said Fong. “This family-owned restaurant in Taft often partners with many local organizations to have a positive impact on the local community and its residents.  It is my privilege to honor OT Cookhouse as our Small Business of the Year.”

“We wanted to be integrated into the fabric of our neighborhood which means giving back whenever we can – whether it’s for our veterans or our seniors,” said Dominique Payne-Strand, one of the owners of OT Cookhouse and Saloon. “We are honored to be recognized by Assemblyman Vince Fong for our work and community involvement.”

The California Small Business Day was established to recognize the contributions of small businesses to the state.  State legislators invite their small business of the year recipients to the State Capitol, where they are honored with a framed resolution.

Small Business Day was established in 2000.
