City going out to bid on $120,000 project

A new pathway will connect Rails to Trails with the Fifth Street Plaza in the not-to-distant future.
The City of Taft is going out to bid on a project to create a pathway to connect the popular pedestrian path, which hosts several big public events last year, with the park between Main and Center streets.

City Manager Craig Jones said the city obtained the land to connect the two public spaces through a land swap with the property owner.
It involves a lot line adjustment, Jones said, and the city is getting the land east of a business that will hold the pathway and the city is giving up property to the west.

The pathway project is expected to cost about $12,000.

It will include construction of the pathway with lighted bollards and an enhanced pedestrian crosswalk across Main street to the plaza.
