One suspect in custody, second being sought by deputies

One man is in custody and another is being sought in connection with a strong-arm robbery in South Taft on Sunday.

Patrolling Kern County Sheriff's deputies were flagged down about 3:45 p.m. in the 400 block of Eastern Avenue by a man who told them he had just been assaulted and robbed by two men.

The victim lost his cell phone and a wallet.

Sgt. Kevin George said deputies obtained a description of the suspects and searched the area.
They located a man matching the description.

One suspect, identified as Travis Buerkle, 35, was detained and later identified by the victim as one of his assailants.
Deputies found the stolen cell phone in Buerkle's possession, George said.
Buerkle was arrested and is now being held on $55,000 in Kern County Jail.

He is charged with robbery, assault on a person likely to cause great bodily injury and grand theft from a person.

He has pleaded not guilty and is schedule to appear in court on Oct. 2.
