Man was not wearing seat belt in bucket truck

A young Bakersfield man was killed early Monday when his oilfield truck overturned on Highway 58 just west of Buttonwillow.

The California Highway patrol said the driver, an 18-year-old whose name has not been released, was westbound on Highway 58 near Corn Camp Road (about a mile west of Buttonwillow) at about 6:55 a.m. when the bucket trucked drifted off the side of the road and on to the dirt shoulder.
The driver overcorrected, the CHP said, and the truck overturned in the roadway.
The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pinned between the truck and roadway and pronounced dead at the scene.

He was the only occupant of the truck and there were no other vehicles involved.
