Composting firm has donated more than $200,000 to the school
Taft College is going to rename the math lab in the TC Library-Learning Resource Center to honor of its largest and most constituent donors.
The West Kern Community College District Board of Trustees voted 5-0 last week to accept a recommendation to rename the the study area the "Synagro Math Lab."
Synagro, a composting firm on South Lake Road east of Taft, has donated more than $200,000 to the college in the past decade, including a $25,000 donation made Thursday night at the annual Cougar Cookout barbecue hold in the TC quad.
Synagro has consistently supported a variety of TC programs with its donations, including energy technology, veterans center engineering, Transition to Independent Living and the mobile STEM Lab, said Taft College Foundation executive Director Sheri Horn-Bunk.
In other business at the Oct. 11 meeting, the Board:
•Approved a series of 2.71 percent cost of living (COLA) adjustments with the TC faculty, classified staff, administrators and superintendent. The raises are retroactive to July 1.
•Approved the expenditure of $37,900 to replace an old gym storage building used by the TC athletic department and softball program. The new building will allow the college to move equipment currently stored inside the gym to the exterior building.
