Two poles downed, causing $10,000 in damages

Thieves have been busy in the oilfields in the McKittrick-Cymric area and even started a fire cutting down power poles trying to steal copper wire.

Here is this week's report from the Kern County Sheriff's rural Crimes Investigations Unit:

•Between 5 p.m. Oct. 8 and 6:30 a.m. Oct. 10, unknown suspects cut down two power poles attempting to steal copper wire from on an oil lease in the 3600 block of Reward Road. The poles held wires with electricity running through them when they were cut down, sparking a small fire on the lease. A total estimate of property damage was valued at $10,000. •Sometime between Sept. 29 at 1:30 p.m. and Oct. 1 at 5:30 a.m., suspects cut fencing and locks to forcibly access Seatrains located in an oilfield storage yard near Cymric Road and Highway 33. Numerous oilfield tools were taken, which included underground utility indicators, Sawzalls, generators, and air impact guns. •Between 4:30 p.m. Sept. 28 and 6 a.m. on Oct. 1, someone cut numerous locks on an oilfield work truck bed and stole numerous tools while the vehicle was parked near Lost Hills Road and Cymric Road. •Unknown suspects stole approximately 1,000 gallons of red diesel fuel from two tanks located near Lerdo Highway and Highway 33 between 3 p.m. Sept 24 and 11 a.m. Oct. 1. If anyone has any information, contact Detective Giannelli. Refer to case #2018-00157593.

•Between 9/23/18 at 1900 hours and 9/24/18 at 1000 hours, unknown suspect(s) stole miscellaneous safety harnesses, hand tools and oilfield equipment from a drilling rig located off Tupman Road. Contact Detective Brunsell . Refer to case #2018-00153299.

•Between Oct. 8 at 5 p.m. and Oct. 9 at 6:30 a.m., unknown suspects broke into an oilfield company’s pickup trucks and stole a cutting torch and a gauge from the toolbox. Contact Detective Brunsell with any information.
