Manager of West Side Cemetery now board president of CSDA, a leading lobbying group for California's special districts

A local special district manager has been elected to a high leadership role in the California Special Districts Association, and industry group representing more than 1,000 organizations statewide.

Joel Bauer, district manager of the West Side Cemetery District, was elected president of the CSDA executive board recently.

Bauer has been head of the Cemetery District and active in the CSDA for 12 years, most recently serving as vice president of the executive board.

Has also served as president of the California Association of Public Cemeteries and secretary of the Kern County Special Districts Association
Bauer started his career at WSDC more than 20 years ago as a groundskeeper and then foreman before taking his current position.

During his tenure as head of the WSDC, he has organized the community's annual Memorial Day Service for 16 years and worked with Tanner Melton, an eagle scout candidate, in the restoration of historic Midway Cemetery on 25 Hill.

That project was featured in the March 2016, CSDA magazine.

Before joining the Cemetery District, Bauer spent 20 years in the Farming, Trucking, and Construction Industry.

He has been married for 41 years and has two married children and four granddaughters.

In addition to his duties with the Cemetery District, he is active in his church and is an FFA advisor.
