Suspect was wielding a broken 40-ounce liquor bottle

Taft Police are continuing their search for a man who robbed and vandalized a local convenience store Monday night using a broken liquor bottle as a weapon.

Sgt. Shad Swanson said the suspect, described as a Hispanic male adult with a beard "who appeared to be intoxicated" walked into the Gas War at Tenth and Center Street just after 9 p.m., went behind the counter and confronted the clerk.

He smashed the bottle and threatened the victim with the jagged broken bottle.

He took an undisclosed amount of cash from the cash register and several packs of cigarettes and smashed the cash register before he left the store.

He also threatened the clerk before he left.
Police have surveillance images of the suspect and are doing follow-up investigation to identify and locate him.
