One suspect accused of leading officers on chase on stolen motorcycle
Two Taft men are facing numerous charges after they were arrested in connection with a break-in at a local storage facility.
Taft Police arrested Duane Melton Jr., 32, and Dustin Jeffery Perry, 29, on Saturday in connection with theft that was reported Friday morning
According to a Taft Police Department news release, officers investigating the burglary at the Storage Bin reviewed video surveillance and recognized a Ford pick-up they were familiar with from previous contacts and were able to make a tentative identification of the suspects.
While they were searching for the suspects, the investigating officer saw Perry riding a red Honda XR 650 Enduro motorcycle stolen from the storage unit. Officers started a pursuit of the stolen motorcycle that went through Ford City and pursued the motorcycle until losing visual of it after entering a field west of North Lincoln Street.
Later, officers went to a house on the 600 block of Philippine, located Perry and Melton and arrested them.
Police said several items of stolen property from the storage unit was located inside the Ford pick-up parked at the residence. The Honda XR 650 Enduro motorcycle was also later recovered.
Melton was booked into the Taft City Jail for vehicle theft, second-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit a crime, vandalism and an outstanding warrant.
Perry was booked for vehicle theft, second-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit a crime, vandalism, evading police with a vehicle and resisting arrest.
