Taft could see a half-inch of rain or more by Thursday night

Gusty winds and rain showers hit Taft at midmorning Wednesday, the first punch from a storm that could be the wettest weather that Taft has seen in a long, long time.

Winds gusted over 20 miles per hour, blowing leaves and dust through town before the first showers started falling.

By 10:40 a.m. Taft had .05 inches of rain with more falling.

The National Weather Service says the rain is expected to continue through Thursday night and Taft can expected a half-inch or maybe more before the rain ends Friday morning.

There is an 80 percent chance of rain Wednesday night, 90 percent chance Thursday and 60 percent chance Thursday night.

The front that brought the wind and rain also dropped temperatures sharply. The temperature peaked at 63 at 9:40 a.m. but fell to 53 within an hour.
