Former car dealership being cleaned out to host major events
Oildorado 2020 is still a year and a half way, but the preparation for the big celebration is underway.
Members of the Oildorado Board went to work Saturday to start the process of turning the old Taft Chevrolet Dealership into the home of Oildorado.
The building hosted the Oildorado Store and had a small room for special events in 2015, but Oildorado Inc. President Shannon Miller said just about every major event is going to be held there.
The work crew took out a large roll-off dumpster full of old office equipment and other items.
The large area in the rear where the service bay and offices were will host big events like the queen pageant, Whiskerino and Tessie Garratt contests and other events.
"We're going to be using the entire building to host all of our Oildorado activities," Miller said."We're getting everything cleaned up so we can demo some of the old offices so we can make more room."
The old used car lot is going to have plenty of room for parking for the events, and it's going to have another use as well.
Oildorado Inc. is planing to bring "a big name act yet to be announced" who will perform an outdoor concert, Miller said.
Saturday's project was just the first of many workdays for the board and volunteers, Miller said.
