Both victims were in same vehicle. Three injured in second car

A head-on collision on Highway 166 west of New Cuyama Saturday afternoon killed two people and left three others injured.

Santa Barbara County Fire Capt. Daniel Bertucelli said two cars were involved and both fatalities were in one vehicle.
All three occupants of the second vehicle were injured, he said.

Bertucelli said the injured were extricated from the wrecked car and one suffered major injures and was flown from the scene by a CalSTAR helicopter.

The other injuries were listed as serious and moderate and both were transported by ground ambulance.

No information about the identities or hometowns of the victims was immediately available.

The California Highway Patrol website said the crash involved two sedans.

The crash was reported at 12:30 p.m. and Bertucelli said the scene was on Highway 166 about 3 miles west of Rock Front Ranch.

By 2:40 p.m. one lane of the highway was open and alternating traffic was being allowed past the scene.
