Accident on Highway 166 at Soda Lake Road includes diesel fuel spill. Roadway expected to reopen late Friday
Highway 166 west to the coast out of Maricopa was closed for four hours Friday afternoon after four tractor-trailers were involved in a collision.
There were no injuries, but both lanes of the two-lane highway were blocked at the intersection with Soda Lake Road.
The crash also involved a hazmat situation as the diesel tanks on one of the big rigs ruptured, spilling fuel across the roadway.
At least one truck was carrying vegetables.
The accident occurred just before noon on a heavy traffic day with tourists heading to or from the Carrizo Plain National Monument's wildflower bloom or heading out of town as spring break week starts.
During the closure, CHP officers were routing most traffic around the crash scene on Klipstein Canyon Road and Hudson Ranch Road.
Trucks, however, weren't allowed on the narrow road and had to wait the closure out.
