Cause of death remains unknown after autopsy

The Kern County Coroner's Office is waiting for more information before ruling on a suspicious death involving a Taft woman.

An autopsy was conducted on Twila Michelle Rash last week but the Coroner said the cause of death is still pending further studies.

Rash, 53, died at Mercy Hospital on April 15, nearly two months after an unspecified incident that occurred in Ford City nearly two months earlier.

The Sheriff said only that an incident took took place at 8:25 p.m. on Feb. 19 the 200 block of Pierce Street.

A suspect, Joseph Taylor, who is reportedly Rash's son, has been charged with elder abuse and assault in connection with the incident on Feb. 19.

He has pleaded not guilty and is scheduled to go on trail this week.

However, the Sheriff said it is currently unknown if the incident is related to Rash's death
