Flaggers will provide traffic control on Monday and Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m as roundabout project starts
Construction starts Monday on a year-long construction project that will turn the Highway 119-Highway 43 intersection into a roundabout.
For the start of the project, the intersection will be turned into a four way intersection, Caltrans announced. Converted to a 4-way stop with flagging personnel providing traffic control on Monday, May 6, and Tuesday, May 7, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
Caltrans said Construction crews will be conducting traffic control during this time with the use of flagging personnel through the work zone. Commuters are reminded to obey flagging personnel and pay close attention to road construction vehicles and personnel.
As work progresses on the project, Highway 43 north of Highway 119 will be closed to a point just south of the Kern County Raceway and Highway 119 will be limited to one-way traffic with flaggers alternating east-west traffic through the construction zone.
The California Highway Patrol is encouraging people to take alternate routes to Bakersfield during the construction.
