Hope that you had a wonderful weekend. It was sunny and flowers seemed to be abounding! Kingfisher Market had bouquets for Mother’s Day as well as good gardening stuff.
Saturday was the Community Baby Shower. It was such fun to see all the decorations cupcakes, games and special gifts for the families of the new arrivals throughout the past year. It would have been great to be able to be there and see all the beautiful Happy Camp babies!
Thanks to the Happy Camp Community Center on Park Way that held the shower and all those who contributed to this annual event.
Sadly, I missed it due to being out of town with preparations for a different event. Dan, my hubby’s 75th Diamond Birthday was Sunday, along with Mother’s Day. We went to Oregon, though not over Greyback because it is not open ... unless you can plow through snow five feet deep, please wait! Do not believe your GPS – it is not right.
This time of year is such a struggle to get directions to anywhere north because that Global Positioning System urges to us to hop over the hill all the time, up Indian Creek Road to Greyback Road and on to the Redwood Highway!
It was our third trip to Ashland to visit Sew Creative, and the other two times we missed them. The first they were closed for a holiday, and the second, we were in Paddington’s too long and they had just closed as we got there. What a fantastic array of fabrics for quilting. Didn’t need a new project at this time but it was sure great for giving ideas for inspiring creativity. It was delightful just thinking about future projects that could be enjoyed once a few of the present projects are complete!
Also found the Northwest Nature Shop, which was great fun. There was a Farmers Market with lots of farm and garden produce and honey but of course, we have to go through the Inspection Station to come home and they don’t allow plants, fruits or vegetables which eliminates most everything healthy we’d seen to eat.
Monday was the May meeting for the Happy Camp Neighborhood Watch meeting Partner’s Deli and Arcade at 5:30 p.m. The next one will be June 10.
Last week a friend was having their home painted, and then the forecast, which has been beautiful sunny weather, changed to rain. Rain is forecast this week as well, even possible mixed showers by Saturday! (Hope not). But there were plans to paint the Happy Camp Branch Library – raking and preparation on Wednesday, taping trim areas Thursday and spray painting on Friday. If the weather changes we may see that postponed until the sun comes back out, but if the weather is good, I’m sure they’d appreciate volunteer help in this big project.
The warm sunny weather has been great, and I hope it continues. Next weekend it sounds like there are a number of yard sales planned.
Saturday is Armed Forces Day and there will be a gathering at the Siskiyou Golden Fairgrounds in Yreka. Veterans who meet in Happy Camp at 10 a.m. each Tuesday will discuss going to this event. It is great how the Siskiyou County Veterans provide these opportunities to honor those who have served and preserved our freedoms over the years.
Saturday evening is Happy Camp High School’s prom, held this year at the former Headway Store, now better known as the Karuk Senior Nutrition Site. Our young men and ladies will be dressing up for this event as the school year draws close to a conclusion.
There’s still more – finals and other projects. But in about three weeks the school year for Happy Camp High School and the elementary schools and even Headstart will be drawing to conclusion.
Coming up Tuesday is the River Readers discussing the book “Where the Crawdads Sing” up to chapter 20. The place to join them is at Partner’s Deli & Arcade at 11 a.m.
Well, whether the sun is shining or we get some more rain, or even mixed weather, keep smiling!
Did you know that Smiling is infectious? (By an unknown poet)
Smiling is infectious
You catch it like the flu
When someone smiled at me today,
I started smiling too!
I passed around the corner,
And someone saw my grin,
When he smiled I realized
I’d passed it unto him.
I thought about that smile
Then I realized its worth,
A simple smile like mine
Could travel round the earth!
So if you feel a smile begin
Don’t leave it undetected!
Let’s start an epidemic quick,
And get the world infected
Remember, if you see someone without a smile, give him one of yours!
