Women's soccer wins but men drop two against erritos and Santa Ana
After splitting conference sweeps the Cougars went 0-2 in the Cabrillo College Classic on Saturday.
West Hills dominated the Cougars Wednesday in Coalinga (25-7, 25-19, 25-5), limiting TC to just 10 kills (Lauren Pau-De Santos and Madison Barcelona four each) but they bounced back Friday to sweep Porterville (25-14, 25-22, 25-17). No statistics from the PC match were posted; ditto for TC’s losses in Aptos to host Cabrillo 3-0 and Hartnell 3-1.
Women (4-3-2) defeated Desert 3-1 behind two goals and an assist from Justice Rodriguez, a goal from Juliet Cruz Garcia and assists from Carla Salazar and Kaitlin Dansie before routing Victory Valley 5-0. Salazar had two goals, Dansie, Vanessa Aguero and Garcia Cruz one each. Next: At Rio Hondo Friday, vs. Pasadena Oct. 8.
The Cougar men (2-4-1), meanwhile, had a rough week. They lost to defending state champion Cerritos 4-2 on Tuesday and perennial powerhouse Santa Ana 4-1 for the second time this season on Friday. The Cougars had given up just five goals in their previous five matches but eight in those two. Joel Meza and Brandon Munoz scored goals against Cerritos (undefeated in their last 33 matches). No information was posted for the Santa Ana match. Next: vs. Clovis Oct. 8.
The Cougars hosted a Central Valley Conference tournament last week at Buena Vista Golf Course but no information was made available by the college.
