New store will be next to Dollar General
It's confirmed. Another discount grocery store is planning to build in Taft.
The long-rumored Grocery Outlet Bargain Market is going to locate on Supply Row on the east side of the Dollar General Store.
City Manager Craig Jones said the builder is expected to submit a site plan in the coming days to build the store and develop several adjacent "build to suit" lots in what could eventually become a retail plaza.
It is the latest in a surge of new commercial development.
Since April of this year, Starbuck's has opened full-service location in the Albertsons Shopping Center, O'Reilly's Auto Parts and a Jack In the Box fast-food restaurant have announced plans to build and a second Dollar General Store is under construction in Ford City.
The first Dollar General is nearing completion and should be open soon.
Reports have been circulating for months about a Grocery Outlet building in Taft but the city wouldn't confirm anything until the deal for the project was worked out.
Grocery Outlet is a supermarket company that offers discount, overstocked and closeout products from name brand and private label suppliers, according to Wikipedia. The company has 320 stores in California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada and Pennsylvania.
