Transient seen in area, fire being called suspicious
Fire broke out in an empty garage in Taft Sunday afternoon a short time after a transient was seen near it.
The fire, behind a vacant home at 524 Woodrow St, caused heavy damage to the garage and is being called suspicious.
Firefighters received several calls of smoke coming from the building just before 2 p.m.
Kern County firefighters said a neighbor told them she had told a transient to leave about an hour before the fire was started.
At about the same time, Taft Police were dispatched to the same location for a reported transient.
The fire was controlled in a short time. Three engines and a ladder truck responded.
