As many as three people left homeless

A family was left homeless three days before Thanksgiving when a fire gutted an apartment unit in the 600 block of Woodrow Street.
The fire broke out about 11 a.m. in a one-story multi-apartment complex and arriving firefighters found out unit near the front with smoke and fire coming out of it.
There were reports of one person inside said firefighter but there were no victims.
One woman was outside when police and firefighters arrived.
She was checked by Hall Ambulance personnel but did not require transport to a hospital.
Firefighters had a quick knockdown on the fire and limited it to the one unit.
City of Taft public works officials were on scene to determine if more than just the fire damaged unit needed to be declared unsafe.
The Red Cross was called to assist the people who lost their home.
Initial reports from the Kern County Fire Department indicated as many as three people could have been living there.
