GMC works to keep military bases in California
Senate Republican Leader Shannon Grove (R-Bakersfield) was appointed on Tuesday by Gov. Gavin Newsom to the Governor's Military Council (GMC):
"I thank the governor for appointing me to the very prestigious Governor's Military Council," said Grove. "When I first enlisted in the U.S. Army, I swore an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. I am grateful for the ability to continue to defend the Constitution in my capacity as a Senator and now as an appointee to the Governor's Military Council.
"With several noteworthy military bases in my district, including Edwards Air Force Base and Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake, I am proud to advocate for them, Grove continued. "Our active duty service members and veterans have selflessly served our country and I am thrilled to be on a Council that supports them."
With 30 federal military bases in California employing more than 236,000 people, the mission of the GMC is to protect California's military installations and leverage changes in federal military strategy to position the state to continue innovation and leadership in its military mission.
