He was not wearing seat belt when his car went off road
The California Highway Patrol said a San Luis Obispo man was not wearing a seatbelt and was seriously injured when his car ran off Highway 33/Highway166 near Stubblefield Road early Wednesday.
The victim, Jason Leal, 49, was driving a 2001 Toyota Camry southbound on the highway near Stubblefield Road about 6 a.m..
For unknown reasons, the CHP said, Leal allowed his vehicle to drift into the northbound lane before turning back to the right and losing control.
The Toyota drove off the right side of the road where it collided with a barbed-wire fence and a dirt embankment, before coming to rest approximately 60 feet off the roadway on its wheels. Leal suffered major injuries and was airlifted to Kern Medical.
Drugs or alcohol were apparently not factors in the crash.
