Victim was riding in car that struck truck

A Tehachapi teen was killed in a traffic accident at Old River Road and Copus Road Sunday afternoon.

The California Highway Patrol said Andon Alexander Urbina, 16, was a passenger in a 2010 Subaru WRX driven by McKenna Nicole Urbana, 20, also of Tehachapi.

The car was northbound on Old River approaching a stop sign at Copus.

The CHP said McKenna Urbina failed to stop at the intersection, turned her vehicle to the left, crossed over into the opposing lane, and collided with a Freightliner truck that was approaching the intersection in the southbound lanes and collided with the truck. 

Andon Urbina was a seated in rear passenger seat and was fatally injured, the CHP said.

McKenna Urbina and another passenger, Isabella Urbina, 18, suffered minor injuries and did not require transport, the CHP said.

The driver of the truck, Camilo Garcia Lopez, 61, of Shafter, escaped injury.

Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be factors in the accident, the CHP said. The crash remains under investigation.
