CHP says victim was in crosswalk when he was hit by speeding car driven by teen

A pedestrian was seriously injured when he was struck by a speeding car in Ford City Saturday night.
The California Highway Patrol said the victim was walking westbound in a crosswalk across Harrison Street at Date Street when he was struck by a southbound Honda Civic driven by a 17-year-old boy.

A CHP officer at the scene said the car was traveling at a "really high rate of speed" and hit the man.

The impact shattered the driver's side windshield and let the victim lying in the street with major injuries.

The victim, an adult male, was taken to a Bakersfield hospital for treatment.

Alcohol was not a factor with either the victim or the driver of the car, the CHP said.

The crash happened about 8:55 and the roadway was blocked for about an hour while officers investigated the accident.
