Fire broke out at 2 p.m. in California Valley
Firefighters are gaining the upper hand on a brush fire burning in the California Valley west of Taft.
By 5:45 p.m. the fire had burned more than 1,100 acres but was 50 percent contained, according to Cal Fire.
There are unconfirmed reports that some structures may have burned.
Cal Fire reported the fire at 1,150 acres and unconfirmed reports said the forward spread of the fire was halted by 6 p.m.
The fire broke out about 2 p.m. and spread rapidly through the dry grass.
