It is with deep sadness that family and friends say good bye to Douglas Craig Jameson. It is with loving memories and happy smiles that we remember how deeply he touched each of our lives. Doug was a lifelong Taftian. He was born at the Westside Hospital on November 12, 1961 to Gary (Jamie) and Anita Jameson. He was probably already wearing a pair of Mickey ears. Doug attended Taft City Schools, graduating from Taft Union High School in 1979. By then he was working at 11-C Market. 11-C would be one of his favorite jobs. Double check with Dave Taylor but you can probably still find one of his doodle's somewhere on a back wall. He left 11-C to join the bustling oilfields. Working a brief time with Rick's Construction, longer at Republic Supply, and longer still at Hopper's. Doug would leave Hopper's for a job with Southern California Gas where he worked about 16 years in the Taft, Bakersfield, and Visalia offices as a meter reader (his Dad had worked there also but not at the same time). His favorite part about any job were the people he met. Doug would find a home at West Kern Water District. He not only loved the job but the people he worked with. He said "we're just one big family". Doug was very excited to get the job at So Cal Gas (benefits) as he had just learned that he would be having his first child, Martha Danielle. (An unknown secret: Doug would watch Days of Our Lives on his lunch hour and loved Meg Ryan whose daughter on the show was named Danielle) Seventeen months later his baby girl, Hanna Lyn, completed his family. Many people think that Hanna's name came from Hanna-Barbera Studios because of his love for cartoons. But it was actually his Mom's maiden name. His daughters were the loves of his life…until… Martha married Andrew Ghobrial and they gave him 2 grandsons, James & Henry and Hanna married Matt Bunnell and they gave him another grandson, Tucker John Douglas. His grandsons truly completed his life and he was living another childhood through adventures with them. The comments we receive over and over were how much he loved his family, adored his daughters, and worshipped his grandbabies. And those statements are all true. He had a standing family dinner with his mother, Anita, his sister Kelly Sullivan, brother Barry Jameson, and brother and sister-in-law Brian and Carrie Jameson. They would meet every Thursday night at OT's Steakhouse and anyone else in the family who could join them just made the party better. His sister and brothers were his lifelong best friends.
Doug was such a talented person. During his Junior and Senior years at TUHS he attended ROP auto shop where he built a Camaro. And everyone knows about his love of cartoons and anything Disney. Doug was a talented artist. He preferred drawing in cartoon form and was already teaching his grandsons the basic form of Mickey Mouse. While he was asked many times Doug only drew a few caricatures. He was always worried that something he drew might hurt someone's feeling. There are many examples of his art work within the community, besides just on the walls of where he has worked! Doug loved traveling. Whether it was the annual trip to Disneyland (which began when So Cal Gas held their annual company party there), trailer camping at Pismo Beach, or jetting somewhere with his daughters or Barry. In recent years he had found he enjoyed wine tasting. But his lifelong favorites were the Beach Boys, 70’s music, Chinese food, classic movies, the 3 Stooges, and, of course, Disney animation. If you brought up Disney you better have a long time for a conversation/history lesson. A trip to Disneyland with Doug was like a personal guided tour. He loved sharing the secrets of the Park, whether it was your first trip or you had heard them all before. His enthusiasm about the subject made you feel like you were hearing everything for the first time.
Doug has been reunited in heaven with his Dad, Gary Don Jameson. Doug’s love for life will live on in his family: Daughter Martha Ghobrial, her husband Andrew and grandsons James and Henry; Daughter Hanna Bunnell, her husband Matt, and grandson Tucker John Douglas; his mother, Anita Jamieson; Sister Kelly Sullivan and her 3 children, niece Stefani Sullivan (great-nephew Jacob), nephew Adam Sullivan (his wife Marissa, great nephew Deven, great niece Olivia, and great nephew Isaac), and nephew Ryan Sullivan (great niece Chloe, great nephew Connor); Brother Brian Jameson (wife Carrie, and nephews Zackary & Kyle Jameson); Brother Barry Jameson (wife Suzanne, nephew Aaron).
While our loss here is great, Heaven’s walls are about to come alive with animation.
