Former longtime Taft resident Betty Jo Byrd 84, passed away on February 14th, 2018 at the Burlington Assisted Living Home in Wofford Heights, California.
Betty was born January 2, 1934 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. She grew up there and was married there at 19 to Norman Earl Byrd Sr. in 1953. The Byrd family soon moved to Paradise, California and then to Taft in the early 1970’s where Betty resided until her retirement in Lake Isabella, California.
Betty was previously a member of the New Hope Temple Church in Taft and was a member of the Pentecostal Lighthouse Church in Lake Isabella at the time of her passing. Betty was a retired food service worker from the Taft City School District.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents Otis and Opal Glenn, a brother George Glenn and her husband Norman Earl Byrd Sr. Betty is survived by her three daughters; Pamela Rouse of Lake Isabella, Sheryl Boyd of Valley Acres, Sandra Rofkhar of Taft and a son Norman Earl Byrd Jr. of Taft. Betty is also survived by two brothers Johnny and Butch Glenn and a sister Marcelene Johnson all of whom are from Oklahoma. Betty also leaves eighteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Betty will be remembered as a kind and gentle lady with a quiet spirit and a sincere adoration for her loving family and her cherished friends.
Betty’s funeral service will be at 2:00 pm Friday, February 23, 2018 at the Erickson & Brown Funeral Home, 501 Lucard Street, Taft California 93268, (661) 765-4111. Senior Pastor Joey Pittman of New Hope Temple in Taft will officiate. There will also be a visitation viewing held from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Thursday, February 22 at the same funeral home.
