Long time resident Richard "Lee" Montoya left us to start his amazing journey with the Lord. Lee was greeted in heaven by his parents Louie and Florence Montoya, and his long time best friend and love Bonnie Beaty. They were also long time Taft residence.
Lee came to Taft in the dust bowl depression days. He attended Saint Mary's school and graduated from Taft High in 1956. He soon started working long hours behind the scenes at the local newspaper the Daily Midway Driller. Where he worked for 43 years. He was very knowledgeable and equally shy. He was a modest and quiet man. Never boastful and loud. He was dependable and efficient. You could count o him to get the job done. Lee enjoyed the old Fox Theater, Football games, and traveling to the beach with Bonnie. He loved animals. Especially his cats and the dogs. He always kept his cars cleaned and properly maintained, if they needed it or not. He has been known to enjoy a big bowl of ice cream and a football game especially his team Notre Dame.
Lee is survived by his brother Frank Montoya and wife Diane, Sister Florence Reese of Newport Beach, Sister Shirley Elom and husband Bill. Many Nieces and Nephews especially his nephew Jeremy who would visit Lee frequently and give him great haircuts and shaves and also Lee's friend Rodney Beaty.
Lee was a good example of the kind of person we should strive to be. Humble, loving and kind. Never speaking badly of anyone. He worked very hard for a modest living. He was "quiet and mighty"
