Roy McMenamin was born in Tulia, Texas, to Roy Francis and Pearlie Mae McMenamin. He was the baby of the family with four older sisters. His family moved out to California at the end of the Great Depression, and migrated through the state, working in the fields, settling in Maricopa. He played football and made many lifelong friends in Maricopa. Roy joined the U.S. Army in 1963, and served in Germany, working in the motor pool during the Vietnam build up. Upon his return he married his first wife, Julie Hankins, and together they had two daughters: Kathy and Angie. In 1974, he married Jewel Barks and gained Cindy Lewis as a daughter. He drove a cement mixer for most of his adult years, and enjoyed hunting, turning his hobby into a small firearms business for several years. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church, and served in a variety of capacities. Roy married Bonnie Belt in
2016 and spent the last two years of his life traveling, visiting friends, and playing cards with her by his side. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, his older sister, Laura Dillingham, and second wife, Jewel. He is survived by his sisters: Francis Jones, Dorothy Rempe, and Shirley Gomez» his daughters: Cindy Pomerico, Kathy Drewry, and Angie Low and their families, including 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
A memorial service has been set for Saturday, January 12th, 2019, at 11:00 a.m., at the First Baptist Church at 220 North Street, in Taft, CA. A lunch will be served at the church following the memorial. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Optimal Hospice care in Roy’s name.
