Robert Jay Scovel Sr, 84 was born on October 2, 1934, in Des Moines, Iowa. He passed away peacefully on July 16th, 2019. He was preceded in death by his daughter Cheryl Ann Scovel and son Norman Guy Scovel. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Floyd and Linda Bennett and his son and daughter-in-law Robert and Jamie Scovel.
Robert Jay Scovel Sr was raised in Des Moines, Iowa and moved to California with his family in 1948. Bob spent his freshman year at Avenal High School and then moved to and attended Inglewood High School where he graduated in 1953. He then moved to Valley Acres with his wife and 4 children in November of 1961. Robert continued his career and retired from Bechtel after 40 years in the oil industry. During his career, he was afforded many opportunities to travel as a Compressor Mechanic. His travels included Peru and Arabia.
Robert was also a reputable Ferrier for over 50 years and only stopped at the age of 75. He loved his horses and was a true cowboy. He also enjoyed several hobbies such as playing basketball up to the age of 49, roping, team pinning, camping, hunting, fishing, water skiing and watching his family participate in sporting events.
Besides his children, Robert is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and was blessed to have the opportunity to enjoy 2 great-great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the members of the Optima Hospice group and a special thank you to his favorite CNA at Evergreen, Alicia. We thank God for the gift of his life and the blessing with the time we were able to spend with him. His legacy will live on.
A celebration of life will be held honoring Robert Jay Scovel Sr, on Saturday, July 27th at 11:00 am at the Taft Moose Lodge 205 S 10th St, Taft, CA 93268.
