Bill Sullivan obituary

Our family is saddened to announce the loss of Bill Sullivan—husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Bill passed away at his home in Taft on February 11, 2021. He was born in Ardmore, Oklahoma in 1927 and is survived by his daughter-in-law Denise, and his grandchildren Bradley and Katelyn Sullivan. He is preceded in death by Mary Colson and Joyce Burk, and his sons Robert and Larry Sullivan.

When he was young boy, Bill and his parents moved from Long Beach, CA to Taft. When he was 17, Bill signed up for service in the Navy, World War II.  He traveled the world’s oceans and studied as an electrician. Bill then worked for Standard Oil as Head Oilfield Electrician for 35 years.

Bill married Mary Colson in 1948.  As a father, Bill was always busy with boy scouts and little league. Bill loved fishing and attending car shows with his sons and friends.  The family also enjoyed camping trips to Lake Tahoe and the Baja Coast.

Later in life, Bill met and married Joyce Burk. Together they adopted as many animals as they could care for. In 2014, Bill and his son Bob traveled on an Honor Flight to Washington DC to visit the memorials and monuments dedicated to honoring veterans’ service and sacrifice. During Bill’s retirement, he enjoyed spending time with family, working in his yard, and walking his dog, Ben.

Our family thanks Delia Romo for her loving, exceptional care of Bill.

Graveside Service will be held at 11am on Friday February 19, 2021 at West Side Cemetery.  Covid guidelines will be observed.
