Louise Wahl

Obituary

A private graveside funeral service will be held in the West Side District Cemetery on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at 11:00 am for Louise Helen Wahl, 102. She passed away on February 26, 2021 in Bakersfield.

Louise was born in Potomac, Illinois, to Joseph and Lena Kelley on March 6, 1918. She was the youngest of six children (older brothers Alvin, Smith, Thomas, Frank, and Floyd); the family moved to Taft when she was four years old. She graduated from Taft Union High School, and worked in various clerical and secretarial positions for the next few years. She met a young Army Air Corps sergeant from North Dakota, Walter Wahl, and married him on July 6, 1946. The following years were spent in Taft, devoted to homemaking and family. Upon Walter’s retirement from the insurance business in 1986, they spent many pleasant hours traveling and working on their home. Golf was a much-enjoyed pastime; the Buena Vista Women’s Golf Club was important to her and she served as President in 1974.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Walter Wahl, and her dog, Sparky. She is survived by her son, David Wahl, of Providence, Utah. She wished to be remembered in her own words: “her finest accomplishments were what she did best: loving her husband and best friend, Walt; loving and educating her son, David; and cherishing her friends throughout her lifetime.”

The family extends thanks to the staff of Brookdale Riverwalk for the care and compassion that they provided to Louise. Hoffman Hospice was wonderful in the final months; Daisy Duran and Rajvir Sidhu are due special thanks.

There are no visitation hours scheduled and the arrangements are under the direction of Greenlawn Mortuary Southwest. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to the West Kern Oil Museum.
