It has been a year since Kern County lost its first victim to Covid-19 and since then nearly 1,000 more people have died and almost one in 10 Taft residents has contracted the virus.
But the new infections have slowed considerably in the Taft area where 1,664 people have been diagnosed with Covid-19 but less than 100 are still hospitalized or isolating at home.
Only 18 new cases have been reported in Taft in the past 7 days.
The Kern County health Department said 610 people have recovered and another 947 are presumed recovered in the Taft area, leaving 99 active cases.
Around the county, five new covid-linked deaths were reported on Tuesday, increasing the death toll to 993. There have been a total of 105,020 cases reported in Kern County since the first one was reported on March 16, 2020.
Just 77 new cases were reported in the past 24 hours.
Maricopa has had 103 confirmed cases but 95 have recovered, according to the health department. The Fellows-Derby Acres area has 40 total cases with 35 recoveries and McKittrick has 22 cases with 19 recoveries.
