Wildcats take win against Arvin and Wasco
The boys varsity basketball team played three games this week. Monday was a holiday so they ended up playing back to back games Tuesday and Wednesday. The first game of the week was against the Wasco Tigers. This game was won by a narrow margin by the Wildcats 57-53. There were no stats available for this game.
Wednesdays game was against the Arvin Bears. The Wildcats won this contest 62-30 giving them back to back wins.
Sawyer Talnenetz was the leading scorer for Taft with 11 points. Craig Popejoy and Van Reimers each had eight points, Brock Mizener scored seven and Rocco Pellegrini added six. Tyler Terrell and Jacob Ellis both contributed five points, Brett Walls and Bryan Bahena each added four points, Austin Massey and Bjarne Schwarze ended the game with two points.
The Wildcats were all over the boards grabbing 54 rebounds in the game. Schwarze led the team with eight, Terrell grabbed seven, Walls and Ellis each had six rebounds. Mizener and Talnenetz each grabbed five, Popejoy and Reimers had four apiece, Bahena and Antonio Medina had three. Pellegrini had two and Massey finished out the game with one rebound for the Wildcats.
Reimers also had three assists and three steals, Popejoy had three assists and one steal and Mizener had three steals. Massey grabbed three steals, Pellegrinni added two assists and a steal, Terrell had two assists, Walls, Ellis and Medina each had one assist and Bahena had one steal.
Friday's match up was against the Cesar Chavez Titans. The Titans came into the game with an 11-0 record. Taft lost this game 99-47 to give them a 4-8 record in league play to end the season.
