Diana Huizar, Valerie Munoz, Cielo Wiggins and Gabby Aguilar lead the way
The TUHS varsity tennis team began their season on Tuesday against the RFK Thunderbirds. Coach Bill Friend had his team dialed in and they picked up a 9-0 win.
The team had strong performances by Diana Huizar, Valerie Munoz, Cielo Wiggins, and Gabby Aguilar. These ladies won both their singles and doubles matches.
The JV team played at home and won their match 5-3. Freshmen Kayleigh Pence, Ana Solorzano, and Allie Barnachia all bested RFK in their single matches and newcomers Aleena Nelson and Jordan Dixon overpowered RFK in their doubles match with a final set score of 8-1.
JV coach Kim McClanahan said, “This team is comprised of all freshman girls. None of them had ever picked up a tennis racket before until about six weeks ago. I am proud of how they played today, and they are only going to get better.”
