Outside workouts only with social distancing
Taft Union High School's fall sports teams and band will start conditioning on Nov. 2, according to a tentative plan worked out by the TUHS athletic department.
All conditioning sessions will be held outside as the band and athletic teams begin to prepare for a delayed sports season caused by the COVID-19 school closures
The plan, by Athletic Director Robert Ramirez and staff members Mandi Rose and Charlotte Kidd, was presented to the TUHS Board of Trustees Monday night.
The proposals calls for the football team to work out from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on the TUHS track with the volleyball team working out from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
The cross country team will work out across the street on the soccer field from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Cheer squad workouts will be held in Martin Memorial Stadium from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. and the band taking the field on Monday and Thursday evenings from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
Spectators will not be allowed on the fields to watch workouts.
Safety precautions will be followed , according to the memo in the board agenda. All coaches will have COVID-19 training from the trainer before working with student-athletes.
For all sports and activities, parents will be asked to drop off and pickup students from the parking lot at 10th and San Emidio.
All student-athletes will have their temperature check before they enter the practice site and will work out in groups of no more than 16 individuals, including the coach.
Coaches will all wear masks.
Fall sports will start in late December for most fall sports teams. Football is scheduled to start in early January.
Fall sports teams can start practice on Dec. 14, according to the CIF.
Winter and spring sports will also be impacted under the rules set down by the CIF in July.
Boys and girls and soccer teams will start practice on Feb. 22 and start playing March 8. Boys and girls basketball starts practice on March 8 and games on March 22. Boys and girls tennis will follow that same schedule.
Baseball and softball, golf and track and field will all start practice on March 15 and begin competition on March 27.
