Buttonwillow teen killed when quad, car collide
BUTTONWILLOW -- One Buttonwillow teen was killed and a second suffered major injuries when the quad they were riding drove into the path of a car south of this small community Friday night.
The California Highway Patrol said the 13-year-old driver and his 15-year-old passenger, both males whose names were not released, were on a Yamaha YZR 450 going eastbound on Brite Road and failed to stop for the stop sign at Wasco Way.
The quad went into the path of a 2000 Honda Civic driven by Eduardo Zapedo, 19 of Delano.
Both teens were ejected when the vehicles collided.
The driver died at the scene and he passenger suffered major injuries was flown to Kern Medical for treatment.
Zapedo suffered minor injuries and his passenger, Jose Navaro 26, also of Delano, was not hurt in the 6:30 p.m. crash.
