Downed power poles are blocking Highway 119 just south of Valley Acres

Highway 119 is closed between Airport Road and Valley Acres and almost 500 people are without power after strong winds toppled three power poles and left live wires covering an oil tanker and the roadway.

The tanker driver got out of his vehicle uninjured.

The poles fell across the highway at 3:05 p.m., according to PG&E.

Kern County firefighters, the California Highway Patrol, Caltrans and PG&E are on scene.

The downed power lines have left all of Valley Acres and Dustin Acres without power, affecting a total of 476 customers.

There is not estimated time when power will be restored or when the highway will reopen.

Traffic is being routed northbound on Airport Road to Valley West then east to Highway 119.
