Kern reports 114 new COVID-19 cases, two more deaths

COVID-19 continues to spread in the Taft area and the rest of Kern County.

Friday morning the kern County Health Department reported 114 new cases in the county and four new cases in the Taft area.

The number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 continues to increase, too. County Chief Administrative Officer Ryan Alsop said 67 people were in hospitals as of Friday.

Two more deaths were reported as well, bringing the county death toll to 53 since the pandemic first hit here in mid-March.

The Taft area now has 28 confirmed cases with 17 of those cases recovered.

There are now three total cases in the Maricopa area with one recovered.

No cases have been reported in the Fellows or Derby Acres, and nine cases have been reported in Buttonwillow. three have recovered there.

In the entire county, there have been a total of 3,140 COVID-19 cases confirmed But 96 percent of those people (3,010) have either recovered or are recovering at home, Alsop said.
