Kern COVID-19 update: 8 more deaths, 1,038 new cases confirmed
The Kern County Health Department reported eight more deaths and 1,038 new confirmed COVID-19 cases Friday.
Five new cases were reported in the Taft area and one new case was reported in the Maricopa area.
Kern County's death toll from the pandemic rose to 123 and there are now 13,370 cases reported in the county.
The health department said 5,193 people have recovered from the virus, but there are 7,895 active cases isolated at home and 149 are in a hospital.
The California Department of Public Health, however, reported Friday that there are 269 confirmed COVID-19 cases in hospitals in Kern County and 75 of them were in intensive care units.
In Taft, the total case count rose to 146 with 67 recovered and 79 active cases. In Maricopa, there are now four active cases and three recovered.
