Taft adds 57 more COVID-19 cases
COVID-19 cases rose again in the Taft area on Tuesday.
The Kern County Health Department reported 57 new cases on top of the 70 reported Monday, giving the 93268 zip code 364 total cases.
Just 80 of Taft's cases are considered recovered, leaving the area with 284 active cases.
Maricopa now has 16 total cases with four recoveries.
There are two total cases with one recovery in the Fellows-Derby Acres area has two cases and one recovery and there is one active case in the Tupman area.
The health department also reported 12 new deaths and 555 new COVID-19 cases in the county. Kern County has now seen 183 deaths and 24,995 COVID-19 cases.
The health department said 7,438 people have recovered from the virus and 17,125 are recovering at home and 250 people are hospitalized.
Despite Taft's sharp increase in COVID-19 cases, the area is still faring better than similar-sized communities in the area.
Wasco has 1,014 confirmed cases with 239 recoveries, Shafter has 946 cases with 275 recoveries, Arvin has 860 cases with 270 recoveries and McFarland has 654 cases with 131 recoveries.
