The murder trial for a Taft man has been delayed.

Bobby Gene Sherrell, 40, is charged with first-degree murder in connection the shooting death of David Ray Steelman on June 13, 2018.

He has pleaded not guilty to the charge.

He was arrested several days after Steelman 31, was fatally shot in the early morning hours on Crystal Street near Olive.

Terrell's trial, which has been delayed in the past, was scheduled to start on Tuesday.

However, at a readiness hearing held last week in Bakersfield, the trial was postponed until April 5 with a readiness hearing set for March 26.

No reason was given for the delay.

Sherrell has been held on more than $1 million bail since his arrest two days after the murder.
