Taft Police arrested a man they saw was armed with two knives and a pool cue after an alteration involving the suspect and two officers early Monday.

One officer suffered minor injuries.

Sgt. Corey Beilby said the officers contacted the suspect, Javier Caballero Lopez, 24, as he was sitting on a curb near a parked vehicle in the 100 block of East Kern about 5:45 a.m.

There had been car burglaries in the area, Beilby said, and officers thought Lopez looked suspicious.

Officers contacted Lopez, who was holding the lower part of a pool cue, and found him to be "compliant but not talkative," Beilby said.

As they left, the suspect got up and began moving towards the officers, Beilby said, and they noticed he now had a serrated kitchen knife with an 8-inch blade.

They attempted to detain him, and, after a struggle, Lopez fled. They followed him and tackled him, and one officers suffered multiple abrasions on his arm as they fell to the ground, Beilby said.

Lopez was arrested and the officers found a second knife with a 3-inch blade.

Lopez was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, carrying a concealed weapon and felony resisting officers.
