Three people were taken into custody at gunpoint Saturday at noon when a law enforcement pursuit ended in a crowded parking lot in front of Albertsons.

The suspect, two males and a female, were handcuffed and taken to Taft Police Department, according to California Highway Patrol officers at the scene.

One of the suspects may be a juvenile, officers said.

The pursuit was apparently initiated by the Santa Maria CHP in Santa Barbara County. As it moved into Kern County, officers from the Buttonwillow CHP office joined.

The pursuit continued north through Maricopa and into Taft where the suspect vehicle turned off the Highway at Main Street, then on to Adkisson Way and Kern Street to the shopping center.

Taft Police and Kern County Sheriff's deputies assisted in the arrest.

A CHP K9 sniffed the suspect vehicle and later an officer removed several items from the trunk.

It wasn't immediately clear why the pursuit started or if any of the suspects were only detained or arrested.
