TCSD to delay start of school by one week
The Taft City school District is going to delay the start of the school year.
Schools in the TCSD was scheduled to start online instruction on Aug. 17, but at noon Tuesday an agenda for a special meeting was posted with one item -- a revised school calendar with the first day of school on Monday, Aug. 24.
Supt. Julie Graves said the teachers need more time to train for online instruction.
Although our efforts have been great, it has become clear to us that our teaching staff will require a more reasonable amount of time to properly prepare to provide our students with a quality online learning experience," Graves wrote in a letter posted to the district website. "The amount of professional development, training, and lesson preparation simply cannot be completed by August 17th, our originally scheduled date for the first day of instruction. In an effort to provide sufficient time for preparations, it has been decided that the first day of student instruction will be moved to Monday, August 24th."
The new calendar extends the school year until June 10.
The calendar on the district website already reflects the new schedule
The Board of Education will vote on the proposal at a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. today.
